New ideas for the blog and some more characters!

Hey hey, readers. I know I haven't posted reviews in a while, but I will when I get a chance. But in the meantime, I'd like to share what I plan on doing here from now on. I'm actually considering a new series of written reviews on here called "Animated Animosity" where I review the animated films that are... less than good. I wanted to try this for a while after Disneyyear and Pixargust was over. I'll also try out other animated movies too because there's a bunch that deserve to have a look. Those will usually be in some sort of theme to it and I'll likely do what I did in Pixargust and keep posting in the span of a month or more. Whatever I review will normally be up to me but if I get enough requests to review a certain movie, I'll do it. Oh, and expect a surprise Disneyear review in a month or so!

I'm also planning on buying a microphone soon for video posts that will have me talking over a random theatrical short and even some TV cartoons from past and present while I talk about what I think of them. It'll be basically like a live commentary. I'll also post the original short or episode without my voice over it in case you haven't seen it yet. I'll also keep posting my artwork as well. There's lots more coming soon, so keep tuned here.

In the meantime, here's my star character, Ralph. Ralph is like any mouse: quiet, timid, and curious. But since Ralph is very small, he has to use his brain instead of his brawn to get himself out of trouble in a calm, collected manner. Ralph has Ralph also is a cultured person, preferring the arts, classical music, and some jazz over today's standards. He's pretty talented at creating art, has a nice singing voice, level-headed, a MENSA member, and modest. Ralph also has a very friendly persona, helping anyone out so long as they don't hurt him. He comes from a long line of laboratory mice, which is why he's white with blue eyes and likely explains how he's so smart. Ralph is a mix of myself with a little bit of Dean Martin's wit. The tail design just came to me.

Then there's Benny, a devious little squirrel that's full of fun and energy. Benny has a usually happy, up-beat persona. He may be a wee bit nuts and may come across as annoying to his neighbor Gordon, but he does use his head occasionally when there's trouble. It's just easier for him to be energetic and popping up at random moments. He has the ability to pull cartoon weaponry out of thin air. He also has a speech impediment where whenever he hits an "s" sound, it comes out as a whistle. He also has a dark side to him, showing extreme animosity towards someone that does him any kind of harm making him want to get even by any means necessary. Benny's one of my favorite characters that I made and he'll be loads of fun to make cartoons for in the future.

Finally, we have Bear and Eli, a pink toy panda and
elephant brother and sister duo. Bear is a toy panda that acts acts as Eli's big sister. She is a sweet, caring individual but isn't afraid to take on responsibilities. She doesn't mind baths and respects rules. She is authoritative and has a more realistic approach to things than her brother. It's her seriousness that can make her frustrated with Eli sometimes, but she still loves her brother all the same and will do anything to keep him happy and safe. Eli is a toy elephant and is Bear's little brother. He is all heart and extremely playful and child-like in temperament and it's because of this that he can get frustrated easily and doesn't always know how to handle his emotions. He loves to play and makes friends but hates veggies and baths. Overall, he's a big bundle of love. Their origin story is an interesting one. Back in high school, I had a friend, Vicki, who had these two pink stuffed animals named Bear and Eli. Respectively, they were a bear and an elephant. So after she made a short play script for our Children's Theater class based off of the two toys, I thought about what they would look like as cartoons. These designs were my end results and I continue to draw and write stories for them to this day.

Like I said, stay tooned for more (sorry for the pun!) in the future!

Lone-Star Cousin

A scene from a Ralph cartoon called, "Lone-Star Cousin"

Here, Ralph's cousin from Texas comes to visit him after hearing about his troubles with the house cat, Lionel. Tex manages to subdue Lionel after the cat grabs and almost kicks him out of the house. He then manages to rope and hogtie him in less than 10 seconds. Tex then goes out and grabs a branding iron, telling his cousin that Texas mice brand cats they subdue. Before he attempts this task, he politely asks the cat, "Would you like on the left side or the right?"

The glorious return of Ralph!

訪問日本から!ラルフのカズンリロイ!

Ralph's Japanese cousin Leroy comes to visit him. Everything seems to go OK except whenever Leroy sees Lionel, he goes berserk and wants to fight him to the death.

Leroy is Ralph's cousin from Japan. He looks like a Pokemon but is actually a mouse like Ralph. Around his American cousin, he's a very ...considerate, polite person. However, when provoked or whenever he bumps into a cat, he can turn into a neurotic sociopath who demands a fight using his bizarre powers.

Leroy is a satire of Japanese anime cartoons (specifically Pokemon). He's brown like Ralph, but has pink eyes and pointier ears. His tail alos makes a lightning bolt shape.

Mousse in Boots

You know the story of Puss in Boots, right? He's an accomplish ogre killer and slayer of evil monsters across the kingdom. There's just one thing he never did count on: Ralph!

Starring Lionel as Puss and Boots and Ralph as the mouse that kicks his butt.

Park Duckies

Some options for an opening for the cartoon, Of Mice and Ducklings. Help me pick one to stick with in the final cartoon. Please?

It's a Dog's Life, I Guess...

A little girl walks down the street one day looking for her lost chihuahua. She sees Ralph and mistakes him for her lost dog. He goes along with the gag, trying not to hurt the poor kid's feelings. After seeing that her family is rich and owns a big house, Ralphie makes himself at home. However, he learns about the drawbacks of being a dog (like a trip to the vet) and after a while, runs away himself. After escaping, he manages to find the real lost dog and reunites it with it's master.

Of Mice and Ducklings

Ralph wakes up one morning in his home at the city park. He goes for some bread crumbs for breakfast, but gets stopped by a gang of ducklings. After being forced to give up his breakfast, Ralph sits by the pond wondering how he's gonna get food now. After a while, he gets an idea: dress as a duckling himself to get not only food but a little payback as well!

Ralphie and the Wolf

Pretty much "Peter and the Wolf", starring Ralph as Peter. Set to the music by Sergei Prokofiev.

Big Baby Blues

At the stork's baby delivery service, there is an undelivered baby that has to be taken to it's mother. The only worker that volunteers is Ralph. What he doesn't know is that he's delivering a baby elephant. It's difficult, but someone's gotta do it!

Monster Mouse

In this story, Lionel (the Siamese cat) is chasing Ralph in an apartment-like complex. Ralph makes his way inside a door that says "Dr. Jekyll" and tries to hide inside a bottle that says "Hyde Formula". This turns him into a Godzilla-like monster and pretty much scares Lionel out of his fur. Just when things turn out good for Ralph, he changes back to normal and the chase goes on. Just as the cat catches the mouse, Ralphie turns back into the monster. In the end we fin ut that Lionel was just dreaming and freaks out again when he sees Ralph in his normal form.

Figured this would be good for a Halloween cartoon. :)

The countries represented are, in order: America (Ralph's normal outfit), Mexico, Brazil, the United Kingdom (England), France, Germany, Spain, Russia, India, China, Canada, Australia, Antarctica, the Polynesian islands, Norway, and Japan.

The Nutty Pipsqueaks

The Nutty Pipsqueaks

An old zoo elephant has a butt load of peanuts, but isn't too eager to share them. One o the peanuts rolls into Ralph's home (which is surprisingly right next door to the elephant's area in the zoo), eats some of it, and tries to fin out where it came from. He does and tries to get away with a few, but before he can, the old elephant sees him and blasts him out of his exhibit. Benny the squirrel also finds out about the peanuts, but winds up the same way Ralph did, getting kicked out. Then the two meet and decide to hatch up many different plans to get even with the pompous pachyderm!

Ralph and Benny might actually make good partners. With their personalities combined, it'd be like a small, furry version of Bing Crosby and Bob Hope's partnership.

Welcome/Ralph

Welcome to A Few Brain Doodles, a blog made to show some of my own amateur cartoon drawings to the world. Here, you will get to meet some new characters of mine as well as see some stories to go along with the players. To start things off, here is a drawing of one of the my oldest characters, Ralph.

Ralph is like any mouse: quiet, timid, and curious. However, when in danger, Ralph has brains and wits on his side and uses them in a calm and cool fashion similar to Bugs Bunny. Ralph also is a cultured person, preferring the arts and classical music over today's standards. Since Ralph is very small, he has to use his brain instead of his brawn to get himself out of trouble, and that's just the way he like it. Ralph also has a very friendly persona, helping anyone out so long as they don't hurt him.

Ralph is a mix of Jerry from Tom and Jerry of the Chuck Jones era with the cool personality of Dean Martin, one of the members of the great Rat Pack. The tail design just came to me.
